Privacy Policy — Split Bill
This Privacy Policy describes how the Split Bill mobile application ("the App", "we") handles your information.
1. Information We Collect
The App is designed to work entirely offline. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on remote servers.
The App processes the following data only on your device:
- Receipt photos that you capture or select from your gallery
- OCR-extracted text from those photos (item names, prices, totals)
- Participant names and split data that you enter manually
- Transaction history that you save locally
None of this data leaves your device.
2. Permissions
The App requests the following Android permissions:
- Camera — to capture receipt photos
- Photos / Storage — to read receipt images from your gallery
- Notifications (optional) — to remind you of saved splits
We do not request your contacts, location, microphone, or any other sensitive data.
3. Data Storage
All data is stored in your device's local app storage and managed by Android's standard sandboxing. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
We do not use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or any third-party analytics SDKs.
4. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
5. Third-Party Services
The App uses Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition. According to Google, ML Kit's on-device APIs process data locally without sending it to Google's servers. See: https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be reflected by a new "Last updated" date above.
